Helpless To Helpful

Hello Gorgeous!

Do you ever feel helpless in a moment, but have no idea how to get out of that space? You are desperate to be free from your funk, but aren’t sure the first step needed to climb out of the hole?

There have been times in my life that I’ve struggled. 8 years ago, I lost everything. My income. My home. My peace of mind. My health was suffering. I was living in a survival state of extreme anxiety. My overdrawn bank account matched my dire situation. I felt helpless.

I vowed that once I got back on my feet, I would never forget what it felt like to not be in control of my life. To have days at the end of the month when I didn’t have money for groceries. I promised to help others struggling, not with a handout, but with a hand up. Because you can never feel helpless when you're helping someone else.

Last month, I heard of a young teenage girl in the foster care system, who had a two year old son. Each morning, toddler in tow, she’d take the 6am city bus to get to high school. She didn’t have a car of her own, and no family to help, so she had to take public transportation and rely on friends for rides.

When I heard her story, I asked myself, “What can I do to help that will have the greatest impact? How can I be my most generous self NOW?” The answer was easy . . . By gifting her a car.

I took to Facebook to share my vision with friends. Several of them donated, and we raised a few thousand dollars. I then reached out to another friend, a trusted mechanic, to look at cars for me.

Two weeks later, I had the honor of hand-delivering a car to this young woman. She said she’s never had anyone do something like this for her. An act of generosity that showed her a different world than the one she knew.

There is so much negativity out in the world. Raising a child in it can be a daunting thing. But there is also SO much beauty, love, and generosity out there.

I choose to create a world full of love and light. Where tragic situations can have a beautiful ending. That's the world I'm raising my son in. That's the world I will live in.

HELP NOW

Why help someone else? It will make you feel better about yourself because it connects you with another person. Helping someone improves their life, even if only for a moment. It can make the world a better place, and being helpful often inspires the next person to pass it on!

Love & generosity,

Rebecca
