How to Define Your Expert Topics + Profitable Niche

Gather round, love; it's time to chat about one of my all-time favorite subjects–defining your expert topics and profitable niche! As entrepreneurs and business mavens, we often stop being able to see the forest for the trees.

You hopefully know by now that the secret sauce to success is already in you and the best way to step into your unique magic is to own your experiences.

Psst, if you need another refresher on stepping into your purpose, have a little look at my article—time to let your heart have a seat at the table.

What is an Expert Topic?

An expert topic is that sweet spot where you feel in perfect alignment. It feels great, right? You feel like you may just be the only one doing it (you're not), and you feel powerful and knowledgeable.

You have value as a unique human. Nobody can replicate that! Even if other people are doing something similar to you on the surface, there is no other you.

Steps to Uncovering your Expert Topics

1. Find Your Knowable: this is what makes you unique, the thing you love, that special thing that sets your heart ablaze. It can be chihuahua grooming, ice cream making, or competitive water ballet.

2. Discover Your Expertise: this is anything from your master's degree to your life experience or your corporate career.

3. Pin-Point Your Passion: how would you spend all your time if you could delegate all the rest?

4. Highlight Your Impactful Achievements: these are the things that you are so proud of, from raising your kid to running a marathon.

All of these things come together to create your expert topics. They lie at the intersection of these areas. The expert topic should be that mixture of your knowledge, your originality, and the impact that someone can get from that knowledge and that originality.

Where to Spotlight Your Expert Topics

Now that you have found your expert topic. Where are you going to shout it from the rooftop that you are the BOMB?

Here are some examples of where you can share your expertise with the world:

  • event speaking

  • podcasting, whether on your own or as a podcast guest

  • creating and sharing online content

Finding Your Perfect Niche

It is so important to be unique and niche down. Otherwise, the business and entrepreneur world can feel like a huge place, and you will get lost. Don't be a small fish in a big, nebulous pond. Be a big expert fish in a small niched-down pond.
